Governor gets October court date

THE SUBSTANTIVE CASE in which the former Governor of the Central Bank is challenging the Minister of Finance’s “powers” in firing him is set for later this year.

The October 18 date was set down today when the case came back up in the No. 9 Supreme Court before Justice Randall Worrell.

A legal source told journalists yesterday that the suit was not about wrongful dismissal but whether or not Chris Sinckler lawfully exercised the power given to him by the Central Bank Act to get rid of Dr Delisle Worrell.

“We are not contending that the Minister can’t get rid of (the Governor) but whether or not getting rid of him without giving any explanation is not a misuse of powers given to him by Parliament…and the court will determine that,” the source said.

Both parties in the matter were given dates to file affidavits before the hearing later this year. (TKS)
