SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT ADVOCATE George Griffith is calling for a parenting academy in response to the deviant behaviour of some children and the seeming inability of some parents to cope.
His appeal comes as the Home and Family Life Committee of the Anglican diocese of Barbados, which he chairs, prepares to hold a series of activities to assist with parenting.
Ahead of the first discussion tomorrow at 7 p.m at The St Michael School on the topic, Parenting In Today’s Barbados: Implications For The Next Generation, Griffith said it was evident that parents needed help.
“You have eight- and nine-year-olds and parents going before the probation officer and the court and saying, ‘I can’t handle him or her’. That is a sure sign that the parent did not put in the work. Because of that, I think that nationally we have to take parenting more seriously,” he told the DAILY NATION. (WILLCOMM)
