PRIME MINISTER FREUNDEL STUART says access is not the issue confronting education in Barbados.
Stuart, who has had to preside over some major changes to the long-held commitment to free education because of budget constraints, said the major problem with education on the island was its relevance.
“The challenges confronting our education and training system are not related so much to access or quality, but more so to the relevance of that education to opportunities available to emerging sectors in the local and regional markets, as well as the global market,” he told those gathered for the Human Resource Development Strategy (HRDS) Pillars of Success Ceremony at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre on Saturday night.
