A $29 BOTTLE OF RUM stolen from his father has cost a homeless man 28 days of freedom – so far.

Tito Omar Arrindell, 40, was remanded on Tuesday after pleading guilty to entering Smitty’s Corner Shop as a trespasser and stealing the rum belonging to Russell Arrindell on May Day.

The prosecution said Tito entered through the back, passed his father by the deep freeze, took up the rum and sat in a chair in the shop.

While he sat drinking the alcoholic beverage, police arrived and he was arrested.

Tito tried to explain to the court that when the officers came, they popped a chain from his neck.

“Big man or sir, I told dem I would get money to pay but they told me I steal it,” he said.

District “A” Magistrate Douglas Frederick, who was concerned about Tito’s “mannerisms”, remanded him until May 29. (TKS)
