TWO NAMES ARE being debated for the honour of National Heroes.

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart yesterday said there was an ongoing debate and view for some time that two other persons were deserving of our attention – namely journalist/politician Wynter Algernon Crawford and white lower middle class politician T.T. Lewis.

Stuart was attending St Paul’s Anglican Church fiesta on National Heroes Day at the St Gabriel School, where the event was in its 17th year.

He described Crawford as one of the “most fertile political thinkers Barbados has produced” and recalled how Crawford represented the parish of St Philip from 1940 to 1966, served as the deputy premier of Barbados up to 1965 and was responsible for “quite a few of the initiatives that we were able to introduce in Barbados in the post riots period”. (TKS)
