Triathlons may soon be big at CARIFTA

CARIFTA SPORTS WON’T be limited to athletics and swimming for much longer.

Triathlon may make a breakthrough at the regional youth level in six months, as the Barbados Federation of Island Triathletes (BFIT) awaits a response to its proposal of hosting an inaugural CARIFTA meet in October.

BFIT president Darren Treasure broke the news yesterday and said that the other Caribbean federations were in favour of the historic initiative.

“We actually introduced [the proposal] to the swimming community when Barbados hosted CARIFTA swimming two years ago. We took the opportunity to meet with other federations last year in May in Miami. We met again in December so the idea is that by the end of this month we should know whether that’s going to happen,” Treasure disclosed.
