Not the first for Barbados

FIRST OF ALL I wish to say I don’t wish to praise or condemn Radio Shack opening here.

In the Wednesday issue of the DAILY NATION of April 8, on Page 5, there was an advertisement stating that Radio Shack was coming to Barbados. In the DAILY NATION of Wednesday April 12 on Page 7A there was a nearly full page advertisement by Radio Shack which starts off by saying: “The first RadioShack Store in Barbados was opened at the Sheraton Mall . . .”. I have to correct that. The present Radio Shack store is the third one in Barbados.

For those people who weren’t born yet or were too young to remember, there was a small Radio Shack store next door to the former Big B Supermarket in Worthing in Christ Church, which I believe opened in the late 1970s, and I bought a few items from them before they closed down.

Then, I think it was around the middle 1980s that a large Radio Shack store opened upstairs Cave Shepherd on Broad Street, and then again I bought some items from them before they also closed down.

So, you see, the present Radio Shack store in Sheraton Mall is not the first in Barbados. I wish them luck.

Just thought I would set the record straight.
