FOUR BARBADIANS maintained their 100 per cent winning records after the third round of matches in the sixth CARIFTA Chess Championships in Jamaica yesterday.

FIDE masters Orlando Husbands and Yu Tien Poon, candidate master Leigh Sandiford and first-timer Vanessa Greenidge all won their third successive games yesterday morning at the Knutsford Court Hotel in Jamaica.

It paved the way for a showdown between Husbands and Poon in an evening fourth-round contest that was likely to be crucial in determining the gold medallist in the Boys’ Under-20 division.

In maintaining their consistency, Barbados, seeking to complete a hat-trick of titles, scored eight wins in each of the first three rounds. (HG)
