ST JOHN CULTURAL prevailed over ESAF Pickwick yesterday in a thrilling, nail-biting finish and captured the G4S Masters Cricket Tournament title at the KMV Oval, Lakes, St Andrew.
Defending a modest 160, St John bowled out the St Philip-based Pickwick for 159 with 4.4 overs left to win by just one run.
Fortunes fluctuated throughout the afternoon until medium-pacer Horace Waldron induced an edge from Pickwick wicketkeeper Michael Agard that was snapped up by his opposite number Joel Moore with Pickwick just two runs away from a come-from-behind victory, having rallied from 117 for nine.
The new champions, who played unbeaten, were earlier given a healthy start by openers John Greaves and Moore before the innings floundered against disciplined bowling by spinners Mike Matthews, George Reifer and Vasbert Drakes. (WH)
