THE TEACHERS WERE there but the parents and officials from the Caribbean Examinations Council and the Ministry of Education were not.
President of the Barbados Secondary Teachers Union, Mary Redman, was upset as yet again, she said, parents and education officials allowed this chance to hear and engage in dialogue with teachers to go a-begging.
Redman’s comments came after she and the union’s first vice-president Erskine Padmore had waited for more than half an hour after the scheduled 3:30 p.m. start before convening the highly publicised town hall meeting at the Ellerslie School yesterday.
The meeting was held to allow parents, students and other interested members of the public to discuss with teachers and their union the contentious issue of marking of school-based assessments (SBAs) and the teachers’ position that they should be paid for the extra work. (HLE)
