TEACHERS ARE HAVING a town hall meeting today in order to discuss the nagging issue of their boycott of marking the school-based assessment (SBA).
Barbados Secondary Teachers Union president Mary Redman said the meeting at 3:30 p.m. at the Ellerslie Secondary School is to engage parents, students and the general public on challenges within schools.
Redman said the teachers’ union will address the concerns regarding the SBAs and how the Caribbean Examination Council has changed areas of some subjects, thus creating great difficulty for teachers and students. She explained that the structure of the exams had changed and the workload had increased, especially for geography and sociology, while CVQs had been introduced for home economics.
The changes not only increased the workload for teachers but for students, she said. (AC)
