OUTSIDE THE PULPIT: Swift beef ban the right move

For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life or what shall a man give in return for his life?  – Matthew 16:26.

I SUPPORTED THE TEMPORARY BAN on the importation of all meat and meat products from Brazil after the authorities there claimed that several meat processors had been selling rotten beef and poultry.

The suspension did not go down well with some local importers, who claimed that the authorities should have waited until an investigation was completed.

As far as this writer is concerned, that is a big no, for the health of the nation comes before the bottom line of any business. It is better to be on the side of the caution rather to be on the side of risk and danger.

 Congratulations

The Ministry of Agriculture and its senior veterinary officer Dr Mark Thompson,
along with officials from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, must be congratulated for taking swift action.

On Monday we got the good news that the ban had been lifted.
It must have come as a relief for corned beef lovers, for there are many people who just love to cook one-two-three (potatoes, macaroni and corned beef).

I hope that we continue to import good corned beef.
