DEFENDING CHAMPIONS champions Kim Holder and Mark “Venom” Griffith moved into the quarter-finals of the Massy United Insurance Clash Of The Titans road tennis tournament in contrasting styles when the round of 16 began on Monday night at the Dover Courts.
Griffith, who is going after a fourth successive title, overrode respective scores of 8-8 in the first game and 6-6 in the second to whip the flashy Clarence “Jim The Nut Man” Haynes 21-12, 21-14.
Haynes hit some shots past Griffith, creating a howl from the crowd. Griffith’s response was almost brutal. He smashed some balls with such ferocity that they bounced out of the venue.
On the other hand, Holder looked in danger of being bounced out of the tournament by veteran Carlyn “The Model” Haynes. (KB)
