TWO GRANDMASTERS of road tennis, Winston “Charles McEnroe” Griffith and Anthony “Ears” Mitchell, put on a display of the highest level when the Massy United Insurance Clash of the Titans tournament continued on Sunday night at the Dover Courts.
In the end, Griffith won the battle of former Barbados champs 21-17, 17-21, 21-19.
The fans were divided into Griffith’s camp, supporters of hometown boy Mitchell and everyone who enjoyed the great tennis.
While Mitchell stroked the ball with a force that matched his grim appearance, Griffith seemed to be listening to a private feed of music from Perry Como as he danced all around the court with the impressive balance and hand movement of a t’ai chi master while perpetually smiling as he attacked and defended with skill.
