A 23-YEAR-OLD MAN is assisting police with investigations into a five-vehicle accident which resulted in the island’s 14th road fatality.
Tre Murray of Spring Hall, St Lucy, was the driver of a car in a collision along Carrington Road, at its junction with Edgecumbe Hill, St Philip after 6 p.m. Sunday.
According to police, preliminary investigations are suggesting Station Sergeant Clifford Sherlock Bridgeman (right), 49, of # 4B, Church Village, St Philip, was the front seat passenger of a police van driven by Acting Station Sergeant Orville Lovell, 60, of Carmichael, St George.
Three cars were reportedly struck. They were driven by 79-year-old Eric Thorpe of Ealing Park, Christ Church; Rondell Broomes, 38, of Emerald Park East, St Philip; and Mario Blackett, 29, of Greenwich, St James.
Bridgeman had to be freed by personnel from the Fire Service using the Jaws of Life, but died at the scene.
Lovell complained for pain to his right side and was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) by ambulance. He was treated and discharged.
Broomes complained for pain to his face and Eric Thorpe received a laceration to his face. They were both treated at the scene by ambulance personnel. Blackett did not complain for any injuries.
Murray was taken to the QEH by private vehicle complaining for chest pains. He was treated and discharged, and is currently assisting police with their investigations into the matter. (PR/SAT)
