Selfish Lot!

WITH 29 CASES OF elderly neglect logged so far for the year, and with more than 40 waiting to be investigated, the chairman of the National Assistance Board (NAB) has accused Barbadians of abandoning those who have helped to build society.

Uncaring and selfish was Senator Rev. Dr David Durant’s description after the agency found elderly people sleeping in soiled diapers that had not been changed in weeks, or lying on the rotting floor of an out-building as rats scurried by.

“For this year, so far, we have visited about 29 cases, all over 65,” he told the DAILY NATION.

“I will have to say, from the look of things, it seems many of us are abandoning our elderly population,” Durant declared. (HLE)
