DEAR CHRISTINE: He doesn’t respond to my feelings

Dear Christine,

I AM 16 years old and there is a fellow who lives in my district who I admire very much. His name is . . . . Many nights I dream about him. Once I wrote and told him how I feel about him, even though I could not say it face to face.

I even sent him a postcard. He has not responded in any way and I am wondering if I should try and find the courage to approach him and tell him my true feelings. What do you think?

– D.B

Dear D.B,

You have already expressed your feelings in your letter and he has not responded. This could mean that he is really not interested in being more to you than he is at the moment.

If you two enjoy a friendship – no matter how slight – it is leave it at that. I would take his ignoring your letter to mean that he does not want to be serious.

To say this to you would take a lot of courage on his part, so he hopes you’ll get the message from him not following up on your open invitation.

Don’t let it upset you. Be grateful that he is not the kind of chap who would take advantage of a girl’s feelings and pretend to care so he would enjoy any generosity she might be prepared to show.

Just go along with an undemanding friendship and if he grows to care for you in time he’ll let you know.

– CHRISTINE
