FORMER NATIONAL volleyballer and beach champion Gregory “Coach” Gill scored a big upset when the Massy United Insurance Clash Of The Titans road tennis tournament continued on Tuesday night at Dover.
Gill, playing in only his second Professional Road Tennis Association tournament, ousted 12th-seed veteran Michael “Mikey Jean” Jean 15-21, 21-16, 24-22.
With the confidence of the youngster who made his appearance at Barbados’ debut at the CAC Games in Mexico in 1990, Gill, who has a ranking of 53, surged from 13-17 in the decider to upend his opponent.
Both players started with solid defence mixed with impressive attacks. But it was Jean who moved from 13-12 to 18-13 to take the first game. (KB)
