AFTER MONTHS OF AGITATION and a war of words in recent weeks, the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) and Government head back to the bargaining table for talks over an increase in salaries and wages for public workers.
The next meeting is set for April 4, five months after the two sides last met in October, and forestalls plans of industrial action by the NUPW. Civil servants have not had a pay increase since 2008.
NUPW president Akanni McDowall is hailing this latest development as a victory for workers.
He told the DAILY NATION yesterday he had received word from general secretary Roslyn Smith that the union had been invited back to the bargaining table in about two weeks’ time. (HLE)
