THERE HAS BEEN a shake-up in the top leadership of Cable & Wireless (C&W) Barbados.
Niall Sheehy (below), managing director of the telecommunications company which trades as FLOW, has resigned.
Head of C&W’s Caribbean business Garry Sinclair 
confirmed the departure today during a Press conference at Flow’s Warrens, St Michael headquarters.
He also announced that Jenson Sylvester, whose substantive post is vice president of C&W Business, was appointed interim managing director.
The company has started an executive search for a new boss.
The Jamaican, who took over as president of C&W’s Caribbean business from January 1, said the “divergence of views” with Sheehy did not mean wider changes in the Barbados business, which he said was “important to the C&W network”.
“Niall’s run this business admirably for the last seven years as Columbus Communications first and then shepherded the business through the combination with Cable & Wireless and frankly has done an excellent job over that period,” he said.
“The fact of the matter is though, as I have said to the local leadership team and the entire team at our all staff discussion yesterday, there comes a time when you have to have a frank discussion about the direction of the business, the ambition you have for this business and how you think we ought to be constituted in order to realise that ambition and our views diverged on it frankly.”
He added: “And so Niall felt it was the best thing for himself, his family, and for the business to resign and so he did. The senior leadership team though, on the ground is so strong, so resilient … and is going to be perfectly capable of taking this business into the twenty first century.”
Sheey’s resignation follows the departure from the company, in October last year, of former head of marketing Shelly Ann Hee Chung, and former vice president of C&W Business Jaggernauth Dass. (SC)
