UPDATE: 18 injured in crash involving minibus and truck

EIGHTEEN PEOPLE WERE injured and the island’s mass casualty response was activated this morning after a minibus and a truck collided along Black Rock Main Road, St Michael.

The accident occurred around 6:10 a.m.

Police public relations officer Inspector Roland Cobbler said the truck driver received the most serious injuries.

The 60-year-old man received multiple fractures to both of his legs and he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance.

Sixteen minibus passengers complained of neck and back pain.

The driver of the minibus, a 47-year-old man, received a laceration to his forehead and abrasions to his hand.

 

The mass casualty response involved two fire tenders, three ambulances, personnel from the Barbados Defence Force and head of the Emergency Ambulance Service Dr David Byer.

The road is impassable and motorists have been asked to find alternative routes. (NB)
