MATTHEW WRIGHT’s season has got off to an encouraging start.
The Bajan triathlete turned in a creditable performance at the CAMTRI Sprint Distance Championships, placing tenth in an extremely competitive 45-man field in Florida over the weekend.
Competing in a sprint format, Wright finished the 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre ride and 5K run in 52 minutes and 11 seconds – just a minute behind eventual winner Rodrigo Gonzalez of Mexico.
As a result, the former CARIFTA Games gold medallist jumped 67 spots up International Triathlon Union (ITU) world rankings, moving from 258 to 191 in the world. (JM)
