AMIDST criticism over the small number of locals in the Barbados Tridents squad last season, the franchise has again opted for only five home-grown players for the 2017 tournament.
And among them is 33-year-old all-rounder Ryan Wiggins, who has never played a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match, and fiery fast bowler Tino Best, 35, who previously played for St Lucia Zouks.
Captain Kieron Pollard, however, has again brushed aside concerns over the make-up of the 17-member squad that includes five Trinidadians.
“It is not a national team. It is franchise cricket. That is what you should be preaching to the people of Barbados, the public and the world. This is franchise cricket,” Pollard told the SATURDAY SUN on a Skype link-up moments after the player draft was completed in a glitzy ceremony at the Lone Star Restaurant in Mount Standfast, St James.
