INDEPENDENT SENATOR Sir Henry Fraser has suggested that the controversial Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) Amendment Bill be delayed, rethought or possibly go before a select committee.
“This is not a draconian bill, although the term has been used. This is a bill with multiple problems identified across the board, across the table and identified to me by both several real estate agents and several attorneys,” he said.
As he took part in the debate yesterday in the Senate, Sir Henry criticised the bill, which deals with the issue of BRA withholding tax clearance certificates if the relevant taxes are not paid up by professionals.
“This creative but controversial bill should, I think, in my humble opinion be delayed and rethought or go to a select committee that has been suggested elsewhere,” he said. (AC)
