Swift start for Nationals

THE NATIONAL JUNIOR Athletic Championships had its own Trifecta and Superfecta on Gold Cup Day.

While there weren’t any betting booths at the National Stadium on Saturday evening, spectators got their monies worth with some riveting races.

The diehard fans certainly couldn’t forecast the rare feat of the first four finishers achieving the CARIFTA Games qualifying standard in the same race and three others in another event.

Track and field’s version of horse racing’s Superfecta came in an exciting Under-18 boys’ 400 metres final.

Race winner and last year’s CARIFTA silver medallist Antoni Hoyte-Small (47.80 seconds) of Rising Stars and second place Rasheeme Griffith (48.08) of Elite Distance Programme (EDP) had already qualified.
