FAN FAVOURITE Jalon Samuel has won the 2017 Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup aboard Dorsett, successfully defending last year’s running.

Samuel and Dorsett crossed the finish line in 1:54.3 to send the crowd at the Garrison Savannah into a frenzy.

Dorsett is owned by Trinidadians Steve and Allan Madoo and trained by Robert Pierce, his fourth victory in this event.

It took the cameras to separate Samuel and Puerto Rican jockey Rafael Hernandez on High Noon Rider.

Third place went to Keystoneforvictory ridden by Patrick Husbands, while creole Nekitta, with Rickey Walcott aboard, placed fourth. (Barbados Nation)
