A GROUP OF small businessmen, hoping to cash in on today’s Sandy Lane Gold Cup, were stymied yesterday as they said the rules governing them getting their goods released from Customs had been arbitrarily changed.
The group said they had been following protocol for years but the Customs and Excise Department was now expecting them to produce additional documentation without proper notification, which was impossible.
“They are now saying they want a cash register bill. We’ve been doing it one way for years and now they just drop this on you. This happens every time an event is coming up,” one said.
Keith Walcott explained they usually went overseas and bought their goods from wholesalers who did not give those sorts of bills. (CA)
