THE BARBADOS LABOUR PARTY is being warned against projecting the image that it can only win the next election if the economy collapsed around the ruling Democratic Labour Party.
The advice came from its former leader, Owen Arthur, who three times led the party to victory at the polls but abruptly left the party in July 2014 after it tried to discipline him. He has been asked by the Government to serve on a National Economic Council and is willing to do so in the interest of the country.
“The [Barbados] Labour Party has to be careful about presenting the image that as far as they are concerned their best pathway to electoral success would be for the economy to collapse round the Government,” Arthur said, adding that he hoped that was not why they believe he should not help the Government.
He was speaking on Starcom’s daytime programme Brass Tacks. (AC)
