Harris: Violence a societal issue

A RECENT SHOOTING at a football match which left two players nursing gunshot wounds was not a footballing issue, president of the Barbados Football Association (BFA) Randy Harris said yesterday.

He contended that the incident was the result of a societal issue, and called for a collective effort from all Barbadians to address violence.

His comments followed a shooting on Belfield Pasture, Belfield, St Michael, on Wednesday night during a Reserve League match between Belfield Football Club and Weymouth Wales.

After the gunfire subsided, two Belfield players lay on the ground with gunshot wounds. Thirty-five-year-old Jason White of Fairview, Christ Church, was left nursing injuries to his left foot, while 16-year-old Keymar Holligan of Eden Lodge, St Michael also received a gunshot injury to his left foot.
