THE RANK AND FILE of the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) have been urged to support their new leadership.

The exhortation came from Reverend Mylon Springer as he delivered the sermon at the Barbados Regiment’s Colours to Church service yesterday at St Matthias Anglican, the traditional church of the military since 1850.

On February 1, Colonel Glyne Grannum took over as Chief of Staff of the BDF when Colonel Alvin Quintyne retired after 40 years of service. Commander Aquinas Clarke was named his deputy after the retirement of Commander Errington Shurland who spent 33 years in the army.

“You have strong leadership. Not that you never had strong leadership. You have strong leadership again. Support that leadership; be loyal to that leadership; don’t stand in the face of anyone and say anything wrong against the leadership,” Springer told his congregation of mainly military personnel, which included both Grannum and Clarke.
