LESS THAN 24 hours after Leroy Walton spoke about his ordeal with a contractor, the police have arrested the man and charged him with theft.
Walton, of Bloomsbury, St Thomas, had contacted the WEEKEND NATION earlier this week speaking of how he had paid a contractor more than $4 000 in January last year to do work on his home but the man had taken the money and had seemingly disappeared and subsequently stopped taking his calls.
Walton said he had been to the police but had been getting the runaround and felt he was being ignored, adding the case was before the Fraud Squad.
Inspector Roland Cobbler, the police public relations officer, confirmed on Thursday that the contractor was arrested and charged.
Walton expressed gratitude to both the police and the NATION.
“The police called me this morning and told me he had been arrested and he had a hearing in District “C” [Magistrates’] Court [yesterday] morning, charged with theft.
“I want to thank the police and especially the Fraud Squad for their efforts; it is much appreciated. Despite the length of time, I think the Fraud Squad is a very well run unit and both my wife and I are relieved to see something is being done. We also want to thank the NATION; we hope justice will finally be served,” he said. (CA)
