Johnson stops Hinds in thriller

“BUSH HALL FINEST” Marson Johnson defied age, fatigue and pain to avert three game and match points to eliminate the flashy Dario Hinds when the Silver Hill Road Tennis Championship heated up at the Silver Hill court on Thursday night.

Johnson, who battles constant back pain, used all of his skill and tactics to hold off Hinds 21-14, 17-21, 22-20 in a thrilling battle which was only tainted by a number of line errors by the officials.

Even when Johnson surged from 8-18 to take the first game with some tremendous back and forehand drives, the Hinds camp were betting on winning.

That Hinds’ confidence was still high although like a boxer out on his feet, Johnson held on and defied some impressive drags and exhausting rallies from Hinds to lock the scores up to 16 in the second game before the younger and fitter player accelerated to 20-16 to bring on the decider.
