NOTED ECONOMIST Professor Avinash Persaud would be packing his bags if he were in the position of embattled Governor of the Central Bank Dr DeLisle Worrell.
Worrell, first appointed in 2009, has been under pressure as the board of directors of the Central Bank reportedly expressed displeasure recently over the way he was running the institution; and some of them called for him to go or they were prepared to quit.
The situation took a downward spiral when Worrell went to the High Court on Sunday and successfully sought a temporary injunction against the Minister of Finance. It was reported that Worrell was given a choice – resign or be fired.
During an appearance on Voice of Barbados’ Down To Brass Tacks call-in radio programme yesterday Persaud was asked by host David Ellis what could the governor achieve by staying on in the job if his boss did not want to work with him for whatever reason. (JS)
