“BACKYARD TATTOOISTS” who prey on schoolchildren should feel the sting of the law.
That view was expressed by tattoo artist of over 20 years Ryan Gaskin, who said there could be a link between the underground market and the growing number of school-aged children getting “inked”.
Recently the head of the Barbados Association of Guidance Counsellors, Saul Leacock, raised concerns over the trend, noting that some teens were sporting visible tattoos and multiple piercings. He encouraged parents to be more vigilant about their children’s dress and conduct
at school.
Gaskin said unlicensed tattooists, informally known as “scratchers”, should face charges and or jail time for conducting business with minors, which he said was a form of assault.
