FORMER BARBADOS LABOUR PARTY member Lynette Eastmond has announced herself as a candidate in the new United Progressive Party.
Last month, Eastmond dismissed rumours that she had joined new party Barbados Integrity Movement and said she was still a member of the BLP.
Leading a news conference at Courtyard by Marriott hotel this morning, Eastmond, who is the UPP’s chairperson, urged Barbadians from all walks of life to join the party to effect change in Barbados.
Flanked by vice chairperson Craig Harewood, who said he was interested in the St George South seat and member Paul Forte, the chairperson said candidates would be announced on an individual basis but the full slate of candidates should be in place by the last quarter of the year.
Eastmond, however, refused to comment on whether former BLP members, now independents, Dr Maria Agard and Owen Arthur would be joining the ranks of the UPP. (HLE)
