EFFORTS TO RESTORE the Joe’s River bridge in St Joseph are getting the thumbs up from residents, but with one caveat.

They are calling on the authorities to ensure an alternative access road is done properly so there will be no issues travelling to and from their homes.

Work began last Saturday on the new road in preparation for closing the bridge. Last month, community activist and resident Andrew Dixon called for a professional assessment of the area because of the deterioration of the bridge.

He said a crack in the bridge had deterioated and a major piece of stone had dropped out, adding he had been monitoring it over the past five years and could not keep quiet about his observations. (LK)
