DEAR CHRISTINE: Feeling sad after abortion

Date:

Share post:

DEAR CHRISTINE, My boyfriend got married when he was still in his teens. He had to because the girl got pregnant and her parents insisted on it. Well, the marriage did not last. They soon separated and she left the island to live overseas.

Since this failure of his first marriage he has been putting off our wedding date. I understand and agreed to wait. However, I got pregnant and had an abortion.

Although this is some months ago I seem not to be able to get over feelings of guilt and depression.

My boyfriend is generally a a nice gentleman but I feel he won’t understand how I feel about having had an abortion. How long do you think this mood of depression will last with me?

P.B

Dear P.B:

Time invariably heals. I think you should talk your feelings over with your boyfriend.

Having an abortion is not as easy as applying a bandage to a wound. It’s a loss; the end of a life. Don’t keep it all bottled up.

Talking to some understanding person will help to shorten the time of bearing the burden of guilt. If you have lost touch with your religious life then have a chat with your doctor.

CHRISTINE
