THE MINIMUM WAGE Bill passed in the Senate yesterday will help deliver workers from unscrupulous employers, said Senator Alwyn Adams.
During his contribution to the debate, Adams said that the legislation, which will repeal the 1955 Wages Council Act, was of the utmost social and economic development for Barbados.
The legislation will lead to the creation of a nine-member tripartite advisory Minimum Wage Board with equal representatives from the Government, union and private sector.
The fixing of a minimum wage should not be dealt with in a haphazard or capricious way but through careful and widespread discussion as to what the minimum wage should be, Adams said. (AC)
