STAFF AND STUDENTS at Ellerslie Secondary School who were affected by a strong odour are uneasily monitoring the situation on the heels of a two-month closure at Combermere School because of similar smells.

A strong odour from a nearby development that is being cleared brought classes at the Black Rock, St Michael school to a halt yesterday morning, and resulted in the school being closed early.

Just after 10 a.m. with the pungent smell wafting through the school’s compound, principal Lieutenant Colonel Errol Brathwaite dismissed the approximately 1 000 students as a precautionary measure.

When a team from the SATURDAY SUN visited the school, only a handful of students were on the premises, which for the most part resembled a ghost town.
