IT LOOKS as if the Green Machines will be taking their seventh straight title at the Luther Thorne inter-house athletic championships.

By the end of the first day of the meet at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex yesterday, they led with 451 points followed by Red Lions, 308, Yellow Tigers, 178, and Blue Blazers with 145.

The confident and skilful Jerone Holder of Green was a force to be reckoned with in the Under-13 category, winning the 100 metres, 200 metres and 400 metres.

Holder also made sure Green finished strong in the 4×100 metres relay when he anchored the team to a runaway victory. Aidan Ward of Red was second and Yellow’s Thierre Drakes third.

Green also won the Under-13 girls’ 4 x100 metres relay with Kyla Beckles beating out Aria Cumberbatch of Blue and Sanaa Wickham of Red.

Green collected wins in five of the seven relay events.

Though 143 points behind, Red Lions also competed strongly in the Under-9 and Under-11 categories.

In the Under-9 Girls’ category, Keziah Monah won the 80 metres, 100 metres and 150 metres, while Trevere Adams won the 100 metres and 150 metres and placed second in the 80 metres.

Donesha Barnett, in the Under-11 category, was also a powerhouse, winning the 100 metres and 200 metres and finishing third in the 400 metres. (RG)
