Red Flag

BAJAN FOOTBALLERS are being targeted for funny business.

WEEKEND NATION investigations revealed that a handful of top local footballers have signed contracts with unregistered agents and some licensed intermediaries offering contacts with international clubs, but who have not followed FIFA guidelines by going through the Barbados Football Association (BFA).

“While it is all well and good that these players are getting seen on the international scene to see if they can break through and get paid for the sport they love, first of all they should seek advice,” said chairman of the BFA technical committee Adrian Donovan.

“I would advise them, do not get into any contractual arrangements without doing background checks. Many of them are signing contracts in an innocent way not knowing the legal guidelines that are set out to cover this kind of business.” (JM)
