THE DAYS OF adolescent Barbadians serving time at the Government Industrial School for non-violent crimes will soon come to an end.

Instead of being incarcerated for up to three years, as allowed under current legislation, Government is looking, with some help from the private sector, to a build a separate facility where deviant children under the age of 16 can be rehabilitated outside of the confines of the penal-like Dodds, St Philip facility.

Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs Adriel Brathwaite made the disclosure recently during a wide-ranging interview with the SUNDAY SUN.

“I’m committed to bringing a new juvenile justice bill to Parliament. I’ve given myself until the end of March to have it completed,” Brathwaite said. (BA)
