FLEURETTE impressively won her third race when she slammed the field in the featured Michael Parravicino Memorial Hopeful Breeders Stakes And Trophy over 1 570 metres yesterday at the Garrison Savannah.
The Susan Miller and Luther Miller-owned bay filly, which is trained by champion trainer Victor Cheeseman, was confidently ridden by jockey Rickey Walcott in the Grade II feature for Barbados-bred three-year-olds.
The pair stalked torrid pacesetters Watch That Birdie and Burbon Street, who sped through fractions of a 24.3 first quarter and 48.3 half mile. No sooner had the six furlong been carved out in a respectable 1:13.4 than Fleurette, in the flash of an eye, cruised by the leader.
She went four lengths clear until Zip Code, under jockey Anderson Trotman, appeared from down in the pack. While the colt gradually cut into Fleurette’s lead, he was forced to settle for the runner-up position for a fifth time in as many career starts. (LY)
