HEARTBROKEN CLARISTA “MABEL” DANIEL believes her 12-year-old great nephew Shemar Weekes’ death, which initially sparked public outrage, was in vain.
Almost two years after Shemar was found hanging in his backyard on May 14, 2015, Daniel said she is disappointed in the authorities after finding out that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Charles Leacock said no criminal charges would be brought against Shemar’s mother Julieanne Weekes or anyone at this time. 
Daniel had been browsing the Internet when she came across the story posted more than a month ago with the island’s lead prosecutor saying there was insufficient evidence in the file to bring charges after Coroner Manila Renee referred the matter to his office.
“To me this is indifference at the highest level and I vow to continue the fight to get justice for Shemar. . . I am anxiously awaiting the official report from the DPP to see what steps can be taken from there,” said Daniel, whose voice cracked with emotion as she spoke about the former Coleridge Parry student.
