THE PROCESS to have special equipment built for the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) to deal with the problems faced by the South Coast Sewage Project is under way.
That’s because the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. (BTII) recently paid down a deposit to a United States based company that will be responsible for building equipment aimed at preventing the surface run-off problems which led to putrid smells and even the presence of effluence along Worthing, Christ Church, last year.
Chief executive officer of the BTII, Stuart Layne, did not reveal the actual amount paid, but said the deposit of a “significant amount” was a normal business practice for such an undertaking, and would ensure the company starts manufacturing the required equipment.
He revealed the company was recently provided with the “specs” for the pumps, and the remainder of the money would be paid upon completion of the job. (BA)
