THE DEATH of a tourist while riding a jet ski last week is still sending shockwaves through the watersports community.

While several have expressed sympathy at the death of British tourist Jordan Mayers, at least one operator is calling for greater responsibility from colleagues as well as the requirement of a licence by all prospective riders.

The watersports operator, familiarly known on the beaches as “Pineapple”, said when it came to tourists he took extra precaution.

“We tell them to ride outside of where all the boats are anchored. We tell them to leave the roped areas which are swimming areas,” he told the DAILY NATION yesterday at Browne’s Beach, St Michael. “We also tell them no harbours or no ports.” (AD)
