THE SEASON of merriment may be contributing to sudden deaths.
According to the Ministry of Health, more people collapse and die in the months immediately following Christmas than at any other time of year.
“What we have noticed in the Ministry of Health is that a lot of deaths happened immediately after Christmas,” said Dr Kenneth George, senior medical officer of health responsible for chronic diseases.
He told the SUNDAY SUN that the ministry’s research revealed that the rate of sudden death is higher in January and February.
For the first six months of last year, 47 people collapsed and died as opposed to 39 for the same period in 2015.
