THE TRINIDADIAN father and son team of Steve and Allan Madoo have hit another first in local horse racing, this time they emerged champion owners of the Barbados Turf Club’s 2016 season.

Having won the Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup with six-year-old Dorsett back in March, nine months on, the Madoos silks of red and yellow reigned supreme, with final earnings of $264 397, supported by six wins from 27 starters.

Renowned for racing at Santa Rosa Park in Arima, Trinidad, the Madoos opened new stables at the Garrison Savannah back in May 2015 with oldstagers Captain Sully and Run For Your Money, under champion trainer Victor Cheeseman.

They quickly switched horses to trainer Robert Peirce and had immediate success with Captain Sully, but as the year went by, Peirce convinced the new owners to acquire a horse to compete in the Gold Cup. (LY)
