DISCOVERY of any body will generate some level of concern among the public, but police officers will continue to work to ensure that Barbados continues to remain a safe place.
So said police public relations officer Acting Inspector Roland Cobbler in response to a question about the discovery of male bodies over the past weeks – one at Foul Bay, St Philip, another at Eastbourne, St Philip, and one at Bath, St John.
“We will continue with our police strategies to work with members of the public to ensure that we can provide that level of policing that not only reduces the level of fear and concern that citizens might express at some time, but the stability of the society,” said Cobbler.
Speaking on the wider police activity at Christmastime, Cobbler said that, outside of the discovery of the body at Bath, the weekend was relatively quiet.
“There were a few minor accidents but nothing major to report at this time,” he said.
“For the Yuletide season, we normally roll out our policing plan that provides adequate coverage islandwide, not only the busy shopping areas but residential areas. We had a quiet Christmas season and we want to encourage the public to continue in that positive note and start the new year also with caution,” he said.
Asked if he thought that Barbados was a safe place, Cobbler said: “When you look across the region, we continue to do well as it relates to the behaviour of our people and the management of the crime situation.” (JS)
