YU TIEN POON and the Sandiford brothers, Kyle and Leigh, finished top of the tables in the Barbados Chess Federation’s trials in preparation for next year’s Carifta Chess Championships.

The Sandifords booked their places for the trip to Jamaica over the Easter weekend by winning the Under-16 and Under-12 divisions, respectively, during the recent trials at Harrison College.

Poon, a two-time national senior champion, won the Under-20 division in which he claimed a silver medal last year.

Leigh, the 2015 Under-12 gold medallist, achieved a perfect winning record by sweeping to six successive victories. (HG)
